These easy Caprese Skewers are perfect for your next party! Made with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil, they’re drizzled with a balsamic glaze for the ultimate flavor. Serve them as an appetizer or side dish – either way, they’re sure to be a hit!
Ingredients
- 1 pint cherry tomatoes
- 1 (8 oz) ball fresh mozzarella, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Method
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. On each of 8 skewers, alternately thread 1 cherry tomato, 1 piece of mozzarella, and 1 basil leaf.
3. Place skewers on a lightly greased baking sheet.
4. In a small saucepan, stir together balsamic vinegar, honey, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Cook for 2 minutes, or until mixture is reduced by half. Remove from heat.
5. Brush skewers with balsamic vinegar mixture. Bake for 10 minutes, or until mozzarella is soft. Serve warm.
Potential changes & improvements
If you’re looking for a bit more of a flavor punch, try adding a bit of garlic to the balsamic vinegar mixture. You could also swap out the cherry tomatoes for sun-dried tomatoes – just make sure to soak them in hot water for about 10 minutes before using.
What other food it works well with
These Caprese Skewers would be delicious served alongside grilled chicken or fish. For a vegetarian option, try serving them with a simple pasta dish.
Common Mistakes
One common mistake when making balsamic glaze is to not reduce it enough. Be sure to cook it until it’s reduced by half, or you’ll end up with a mixture that’s too thin and runny.
