The Reuben sandwich is a classic American sandwich, traditionally made with corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing on rye bread. This sandwich is easy to make at home and can be modified to suit your taste.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound thinly sliced corned beef
  • 1/2 cup sauerkraut, drained
  • 1/4 cup Russian dressing

  • 4 slices rye bread
  • Butter or margarine, for spreading

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered side of 2 slices of bread, spread Russian dressing. On the unbuttered side of the remaining 2 slices of bread, spread sauerkraut.
  3. Layer corned beef, Swiss cheese, and pickle slices on top of the sauerkraut. Top with the bread slices, dressing side down. Press gently.
  4. Place sandwiches on a baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.
