Nabemono (Hot Pot)

Nabemono, or Hot Pot, is a delicious and hearty dish perfect for winter nights. It is a one-pot meal that is simple to make and can be easily customized to your liking. The best part about Hot Pot is that it can be made with whatever ingredients you have on hand.


-1 pound of beef, thinly sliced

-1 head of Napa cabbage, thinly sliced

-1 carrot, thinly sliced

-1 onion, thinly sliced

-2 cloves of garlic, minced

-1 inch piece of ginger, minced

-8 cups of beef stock

-1/2 cup of soy sauce

-1/4 cup of rice vinegar

-1 tablespoon of sesame oil

-2 tablespoons of cornstarch

-1/4 cup of green onions, thinly sliced

-1/4 cup of cilantro, chopped


1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, combine the beef stock, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Stir until the cornstarch is dissolved.

2. Add the beef, cabbage, carrot, onion, garlic, and ginger. Bring the soup to a boil over high heat.

3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.

4. Ladle the soup into bowls and top with green onions and cilantro.
