Cranberry Sauce

This tart and sweet cranberry sauce is the perfect addition to your holiday table. It’s so easy to make, and can be made ahead of time. Simply reheat and serve.

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 oz) package fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced

Method

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, water, orange juice and zest.
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
  4. Remove from the heat and let cool.
  5. Store in a covered container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Potential changes & improvements

If you find the sauce too tart, you can add more sugar to taste. For a more savory sauce, you can add a bit of freshly ground black pepper.

What other food it works well with

Cranberry sauce is traditionally served with roast turkey or chicken. It also goes well with pork, lamb or beef. Try it as a condiment on sandwiches or wraps, or use it as a topping on pancakes or waffles.

Common Mistakes

Be sure to simmer the sauce until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened. If the sauce is too thin, it will separate when reheated. If it’s too thick, it will be difficult to pour.
