Pozolillo (Hominy Soup)

1 lb. hominy

1 lb. chicken or pork

1 onion

1 green pepper

2 cloves garlic

1 tsp. chili powder

1 tsp. oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

6 cups chicken or beef broth

1 lime

1 jalapeno, diced

1 cup cilantro, chopped


1. In a large pot, cook the hominy in water for 30 minutes.

2. Add the chicken or pork, onion, green pepper, garlic, chili powder, cumin, and oregano. Season with salt and pepper.

3. Add the broth and lime juice. Bring to a boil.

4. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.

5. Add the jalapeno and cilantro. Simmer for 5 more minutes.

6. Serve hot with lime wedges and tortillas.
