Potential changes & improvements

– For a creamier mac and cheese, use a higher ratio of cheese to milk.
– For a cheesy mac and cheese, use a higher ratio of cheese to pasta.
– For a more flavourful mac and cheese, add in some chopped herbs, garlic, or onion.
– For a healthier mac and cheese, use skim milk and low-fat cheese.

What other food it works well with

Macaroni and cheese goes well with a variety of foods. Some popular pairing include:

– Grilled chicken
– Roasted vegetables
– Salad
– Garlic bread

Common Mistakes

– Not boiling the macaroni long enough. The pasta should be cooked al dente, or just undercooked, so that it is still firm when you bite into it.

– Adding the cheese to the pasta while it is still hot. This will cause the cheese to clump together and not melt evenly.

– Not whisking the milk mixture constantly. If you don’t whisk it, the flour will clump up and you will end up with a lumpy sauce.

– Not stirring the macaroni and cheese well enough. Make sure to stir it until all of the cheese is melted and the mixture is smooth.

– Overcooking the macaroni and cheese. Once the cheese is melted and bubbly, it is ready to come out of the oven. If you cook it for too long, the pasta will become overcooked and mushy.
